Directions for syncing tags back to VAN
Connecting to VAN: The first step to ensuring you’re connected to VAN is saving your API keys in Spoke. If you haven’t preloaded your VAN API keys into VAN, check out this support article on entering and saving your VAN API keys in Spoke.
Next, make sure you’ve selected an API key in the “Integrations” dropdown on the campaign edit / creation page. If you haven’t selected an API key yet, you won’t be able to map your tags back to VAN.
Enabling tags: After you’ve selected an API key in “Integrations”, head down to “Texter Panel” tab of the campaign, and turn on the “Tagging Contacts”. Once tags are enabled, choose which tags you’d like on your campaign.
Note: If you don’t see any tags inside “Tagging contacts”, you’ll need to create them in your Spoke. See here for our guide on creating tags in Spoke.
Connecting your tags to VAN: After you’ve selected the tags you’d like enabled on your campaign, select “Add New Tag Action Handler”. Select the tag you want connected to VAN, then select “NGP VAN” in the Action Handler dropdown, search for the corresponding survey response, activist code, or canvass response you want to map, and then select “add action”. When you’re done connecting your tags back to VAN, be sure to select “Save and go to next section” to save these mappings!
That’s it! Now when your texters select this tag and hit “Save”, this will automatically sync back to your VAN committee.
