Tags are labels that you can add to text conversations to track data. You’ll see the tag(s) added to conversations in your Threads and data exports. You can also sync tags back to NGP VAN.

To access tags, create them on the "Tags" page. Once made, you can add any or all of them to your text campaigns.

Map VAN Statuses to Tags

When you map a  NGP / VAN  status to a tag, the data automatically syncs with  NGP / VAN whenever the tag is used. To add NGP / VAN mapping to a tag, click the pencil icon on the right side. Then, click “+ Add a VAN Integration”.

Image above: The edit screen lets you change the name of your tag and/or add an integration.

Note: You can only map a VAN status to your tags if your Scale to Win Text account is integrated with NGP/VAN. To get that started, read here.

You can map tags to My Voters, My Campaign (EveryAction), or both. Select the side you want to integrate with first under "Integration".

Image above: The first step to integrating a tag is to choose whether to link it with My Voters or My Campaigns.

After syncing your tag to My Campaign or My Voters, you will select whether to send data back as an Activist Code, Canvass Result, or Survey Response. Under "Action Type", pick the type of action you want to sync.

Image above: The "Action Type" dropdown is where you select the type of action that you’re associating with your tag. This is the data that is sent to VAN when your tag(s) is applied.

If you picked a Survey Response, you'll also be prompted to map the tag to the relevant answer.

You can add another integration to the same tag for a different VAN key or side if you’d like.

Adding Tags to Text Campaigns and Conversations

To use a tag, you need to add it to a campaign. There are two ways to use tags in campaigns:

  • Manual tags: Texters click to save a tag on a conversation.

  • Tagged scripts: Tags are automatically saved when linked response scripts are sent.

You can add Tags to Campaigns from the Tags step of the campaign builder. All you need to do is select the tags that you want to be able to manually apply to conversations, then click the Continue button.

Image above: Select the tags you want available in your campaign in its "Tags" section. You can add or remove tags even after you start texting.

Once tags are added to your text campaign, you can add them to conversations from the Texter or Threads views. To do so, open the "Tags" tab on a conversation, click on the relevant tag(s), and save.

Here’s what that will look like:

To recap: you can manually apply a tag to a conversation under the “Tags” tab by clicking on it and clicking the “Save Tags” button. If your tag is associated with a VAN action and the campaign is integrated with VAN, that data will sync back.

Adding Tags to Response Scripts

You can also attach tags to Response Scripts in Scale to Win Text. When you send a tagged script, the tag(s) willl automatically be added to the conversation. For more info on Response Scripts, read here

You can add tags to response scripts from:

  1. The “Response Scripts” page in the subaccount menu.

  2. The “Response Scripts” step while editing or creating campaigns.

Once you’ve created or imported a response script, you can click on the pencil icon to the right to edit it and apply tags.

Image above: "Edit Script Response "popup. You can apply tags from your Tags page in the "Apply Tags" section.

If you just created a tag, but don’t see it as an option to add to a response script, try refreshing your page!

Once you’re happy with the tags you’ve added to your response scripts, click "Update" to exit the edit popup.

If you are adding tags from the "Response Scripts" page in a campaign, click on the “Continue” button to move forward.

Image above: Tags associated with response scripts appear in green below the script.

What Texters See

Tags show up in green below response scripts. Texters can see them in the “Responses” tab when choosing scripts to send.

Image above: Texters will see tags as green labels below response scripts they can choose.

In other words, texters have visibility into what data they will be saving.

Removing Tags from Conversations

If a tag has been misapplied to a conversation, you can remove it.

  1. Hover your pointer over the tag - you should see an x appear.
  2. Click on the tag.
  3. Hit "Save".

Note that removing a tag from Scale to Win does not remove the data applied to a VAN record, owing to limitations of the VAN integration.
