TABLE OF CONTENTS

Response Scripts are pre-written canned responses that can be used as replies in text conversations to save time and maintain consistency.

Tags are customizable labels you can apply to contacts based on conversations. Tags help capture granular insights about your audience and are the only way to sync Survey Responses, Activist Codes, and Canvass Results from your text conversations back to NGP VAN. Note: Your NGP VAN integration must be set up before syncing tags. You can find instructions on how to set up your NGP VAN integration in this article.

Creating and Using Tags
Once created, you can add any or all Tags to your text campaigns.

To add a new Tag to your account:

  1. Navigate to your Tags page in your subaccount menu.

  2. Click + New Tag.

  1. Enter desired Tag name

  2. Click Save

Map NGP VAN Statuses to Tags
When you map an NGP VAN status to a Tag, the data automatically syncs with NGP VAN whenever the Tag is applied.

To map an NGP VAN status to a Tag:

  1. Navigate to your Tags page in your subaccount menu.

  2. Click the pencil icon next to the Tag you want to map.

  3. Click + Add a VAN Integration.

  1. Map Tags to either (or both) MyVoters or MyCampaigns by selecting from the drop-down menu.

  1. In the Action Type dropdown menu, select whether you want to sync the data as a Canvass ResultActivist Code, or Survey Response

  1. Note: Selecting Survey Response prompts selection of your survey question and its correlating response.

  2. Click Save.

Adding Tags to Text Campaigns and Conversations
Before you can use Tags in a text campaign, you must first import them.

  1. Navigate to the Campaigns page and click New Campaign.

  2. Navigate to Tags (Step 8).

  3. To import all available Tags, click Import All Tags .

  4. To import specific tags, check the box next to the Tags you wish to use and click Import Selected.

Applying Tags
When managing replies from a contact, there are two ways to apply Tags:

  1. Manual Tags: Navigate to the Tags tab below the message box. Manually select the Tag(s) you want to apply, then click Save Tags.

  2. Tagged Scripts: If a Response Script has a Tag attached, that Tag will be automatically applied when the Response Script is sent.

Removing Tags From Conversations

  1. Hover your pointer over the tag - you should see an x appear.

  2. Click on the tag.

  3. Click Save.

Note: Removing a tag from Scale to Win Text does not remove the data applied to a VAN record, owing to limitations of the VAN integration.

Response Scripts

The Response Scripts page is where you can view, create, and organize pre-written replies to streamline conversations within your campaign. You can also attach Tags to Response Scripts. When a tagged script is sent, the associated Tag(s) will be automatically added to that conversation.

There Are Two Ways To Create Response Scripts:

At the Global Level

  1. Navigate to the Response Scripts page in the left-hand menu.

  2. Click + Add Group to create a group of Response Scripts.

    1. Groups are a way to organize your response scripts by use case (e.g., FAQs, Supporter ID, Volunteer).

  3. Name the group and click Add

  4. By default, the group and all its Response Scripts will be imported into every new campaign you build. You can disable this by toggling the auto-import setting off.

  1. Once the Group is created, click + Add Response to build your script.

    1. Give your script a clear title so Texters can easily identify its purpose.

    2. Enter the response in the field under Script.

  1. Under Apply Tags, select any Tag(s) you want automatically applied to a contact when this script is sent.

  2. Under Add to a Response Group, select the Response Group(s) you want to add this response to.

Optional: Add keywords to your Response Script to trigger automatic responses when contacts reply with the exact keyword. Learn more about Keyword Autoresponders in this article.

  1. Click Add. The Response Script is ready to import into your campaigns.

At the Campaign Level
When building your campaign, you can create Response Scripts that are unique to this individual campaign in Response Scripts (Step 7).

Follow the steps outlined above by creating a Group and then creating responses.

Applying Response Scripts (Threads View)

  1. Open a conversation and navigate to the Responses tab.

  2. Select the Response Script you want to send and it will appear in the Your Message box, then click Send.

Note: For further information on managing conversations, refer to our Threads and Reply Management article.

How Can Response Scripts & Tags Help Your Organization?

  1. Streamlined Communication:
Response Scripts offer pre-written replies for common queries, saving time and ensuring consistent messaging. This helps Texters quickly respond to many contacts with approved messages.

  2. Data Tracking & Insights:
Tags categorize and track conversation data, aiding audience segmentation and interaction understanding. Mapping Tags to NGP VAN statuses (e.g., canvass results, survey responses) automatically syncs valuable data, helping analyze campaign performance and adjust strategy based on real-time insights.

  3. Automated Follow-Ups:
Response Scripts can be triggered automatically by specific keywords, ensuring immediate follow-ups without manual input. Example:  if a contact replies with, ā€œI’m interested,ā€ the tool can trigger a follow-up Response Script that keeps the conversation going. This automation saves time while maintaining personalized engagement.
