Still need to register for 10DLC? Learn how here.

Successfully registering for 10DLC means you’ll be able to send your texts from phone numbers with local area codes. Your contacts will see these phone numbers when they receive your texts. By default, you’ll gain access to a single phone number with one of the area codes listed as a preference during 10DLC registration. You can then add other numbers in the area codes of your choice (up to 49 in total).

This article covers how to:

  1. access and add 10DLC phone numbers to your account,

  2. change your default 10DLC number, name your 10DLC numbers, and archive them,

  3. manage 10DLC phone numbers across subaccounts

TABLE OF CONTENTS

10DLC Default Number

When you start out on 10DLC, you get a single phone number (with an area code from the registration form). This default phone number will always be used to send SMS and MMS campaigns on 10DLC unless you add numbers to choose between.

Send from your default number

To send texts from your default number, open up the "Phone Numbers" section of your campaign. Then, select "10DLC Phone Number - SMS / MMS" from the dropdown list.

Image above: To send your texts from your default phone number, select "10DLC Phone Number - SMS / MMS" in the "Phone Numbers" section of your campaign.

As long as this option is selected, you'll be sending your texts from your registered 10DLC phone number.

View your default number

If you haven’t started a campaign yet, you’ll see the phone number that will be used to send the texts at the top of the campaign creation screen (see image above).

To view the phone number on campaigns you’ve started, click on the name of the campaign to be taken to its data dashboard, then click the “Phone Numbers” button in the top right. You can then see the exact phone number used to send your text campaign.

Owners can also view the default number by navigating to the “Compliance” page.

Add a new 10DLC number

To add further numbers to your team, click on the “Add Number” button on the “10DLC Numbers” page. This will bring up a popup where you can enter the area code for the number you want to add.

When you click “Add Phone Number”, we will order a phone number with that area code for you. If a number is available in that area code, it will appear on the page.

New numbers will be in a “Pending” status for up to 30 minutes and will first become accessible in your campaigns once they move to “Active” status.

If a number is not available in that area code, or the exact number we tried to purchase was snatched up elsewhere, you will receive an error message. You can either retry with the same area code or try a different area code.

If you continue to receive error messages after trying different area codes, or are unable to purchase a number in your desired area code, please contact us here.

Naming your numbers

You can use the “10DLC Numbers” page to name your 10DLC numbers. This helps quickly distinguish between them when you're building campaigns.

To name a number, click on the pencil icon next to a number in the “Display Name” column of your 10DLC phone numbers table.

This will bring up a popup where you can enter the name for the number.

Add the name in the field, then hit “Save”. The number will now show under this name in your table.

Select from your phone numbers in text campaigns

To send a campaign from a 10DLC phone number other than the default, go to the “Phone Numbers” section of your SMS or MMS campaign. Make sure “10DLC Phone Number - SMS/MMS” has been selected as the "campaign type". If you have more than one active 10DLC number, you will see a phone number displayed. Click on the phone number to open a dropdown menu.

Image above: Once you have more than one 10DLC number on your account, you’ll see the option to choose between them in the “Phone Numbers” section of campaigns.

Select the number you want to use, then hit “Save”.

Note: If you change the number for a campaign and then copy it, the same number you selected for that campaign will be pre-selected in the copy.

Change your default 10DLC number

Once more than one 10DLC number is active on your team, you can change which of them appears as the default in campaigns. Keep in mind that all new 10DLC campaigns will be use your default number, unless you are copying a campaign where a different number was selected.

Default numbers are marked on the “10DLC Numbers” page with a black star. To change the default number, click on the unfilled star next to the number you want to use instead.

Archiving 10DLC numbers

If you no longer want to use a 10DLC number, you can archive it. Archiving removes that number as an option for sending new campaigns; however, the number still remains active on any campaigns using it. Numbers can always be unarchived if you end up wanting to send from them again.

If you want to completely remove numbers from your account, please reach out to support@scaletowin.com.

How to archive a number

To archive a 10DLC number, click the archive icon in that number’s row of the “10DLC Numbers” page.

Image above: To archive a number, click the icon showing a file with a downward arrow.

Viewing archived numbers and unarchiving them

You can view numbers you’ve archived on the “10DLC Numbers” page. Click on the dropdown above the “Phone Numbers” column; this will allow you to toggle between viewing active and archived numbers.

Image above: To see any numbers you archived, use the dropdown toggle to the left. You can unarchive any number from this view by clicking the file icon with an upward arrow.

To unarchive a number, i.e. make it accessible again in your new text campaigns, click on the “unarchive” icon in that number’s row.

Archiving your default number

If you archive your default number on the “10DLC Numbers” page, you will be prompted to select a new default number.

Image above: View of the popup you’ll see when archiving your default number. You must select a new number to be the default before you can archive your default.

Note that if no other numbers are available, you cannot archive the default number. Either unarchive another number or add a new number to your table to archive the current default.

How many numbers can my registration have?

Carriers limit every 10DLC registration to 49 numbers total. If your 10DLC registration is being used across subaccounts, that cap applies across all of your subaccounts.

If you have a legitimate need for more than 49 numbers, we can apply to get you up to 5000 numbers with a special application. Please contact us here to initiate this process.

Connect your account to multiple registrations

If you’d like to use more than one 10DLC registration on your account, we offer a teams feature that would support this use case. Teams are subaccounts that can be accessed from the same URL, but that have their own campaigns, users, tags, and settings. Each team can have a different 10DLC registration; you can also connect multiple teams to the same registration to ensure the same numbers are never used between them.

Please note that the 49-number limit is on a per-registration basis and will apply across subaccounts using the same registration unless we put in a special application for 5000 numbers.

To have teams added to your account, please reach out to us at support@scaletowin.com, letting us know what you'd like the subaccount to be called, the time zone for texting, and which 10DLC registration you want to use on that subaccount.
