Note: To get started with your Scale to Win Text account, you need to accept the invitation sent to you in your onboarding email.
Create a New Campaign
To create a campaign, navigate to your Campaigns page and click the blue +New Campaign button. Alternatively, you can make a copy of an existing campaign by clicking the double page icon next to it. When a campaign is copied, all original settings, including initial message scripts, are retained. However, a new contact list will still be required.
Step 1: Basics
Name your campaign, add an optional description, and select your NGP VAN / EveryAction Integration if you are planning to load a list from or sync data back to VAN. You can override the campaign’s default texting hours, batch size, and assignment duration. These defaults can be managed on your Settings page. If you have created one or more inboxes in your subaccount, you can route replies to one of them. Choosing this option will automatically align the batch size and assignment duration with the settings of the selected inbox.
Step 2: Sending Numbers
Select the phone number from which your texting campaign messages will be sent. The available sending number options, which include 10DLC, Toll-Free, and Short Code, are determined by which registration process(es) you’ve completed successfully. If you have multiple phone numbers for a particular registration (i.e. if you alternate between two area codes), you can select your preferred number from a dropdown list.
Step 3: Load Contacts
Select one of several methods to load contacts for your campaign.
CSV Upload
File Format: Your contact list must be saved in .csv format.
Contact Limit: The default contact limit is 500K. Reach out to our Client Support team if you require a larger contact upload limit.
Required Columns: Your file needs to contain columns for first name and phone number. A last name column is not needed. If you’ve enabled an NGP VAN / Everyaction integration and would like to sync data back, your CSV must also include a VAN ID column.
Column Headers: While your headers should be identifiable, Scale to Win Text does not require specific header names (ex: cell, phone, and phone_number are all acceptable headers for your phone number column).
Follow Up Campaign: Use the follow-up option to re-target contacts from a previous campaign. Follow-up campaigns have the ability to narrow your target audience based on things like contact status and/or actions taken.
To create a follow up campaign, select your filter criteria, then select the campaign(s) that contain the contact list you wish to retarget, based on your defined criteria.
Note: If the NGP VAN Integration is enabled, you will only be able to see campaigns with the same VAN settings.
ActBlue: The ActBlue option will only appear if youʼve successfully set up an ActBlue Integration. From here you'll be able to filter down and import your ActBlue donors. You cannot sync data back to VAN using the ActBlue List Loader. If you have the VAN Integration enabled, it will not allow you to choose ActBlue for your list upload.
ActionKit: The ActionKit option will only appear if youʼve successfully set up an ActionKit integration. You will need to create a report in ActionKit that includes phone numbers, first names, and last names. Be sure to have the report's shortname or ID and the column header for phone numbers readily available.
If your campaign has a VAN Integration enabled (you’d like to sync data back), the ActionKit report must include a column for the VAN IDs of the incoming contacts.
NGP VAN / EveryAction: The NGP VAN / EverAction option will only appear if you’ve successfully set up a NGP VAN Integration, and selected it in the Basics step. After selecting NGP VAN/EverAction as your integration, you can search for lists in folders shared with Scale to Win. The results will automatically sync back to VAN via the contact's VAN ID.
Google Cloud Storage: This option will only appear if youʼve successfully set up a GCS Integration. After selecting Google Cloud Storage as your integration, you can search for all lists in your bucket shared with Scale to Win.
Note: If your campaign has a VAN Integration enabled (you’d like to sync data back), the imported file must include a column for the VAN IDs of the incoming contacts.
Step 4: Contact Mapping
Contact mapping allows you to link custom fields in your script to columns in your contact upload. This feature ensures that personalized greetings, such as "Hi {{first_name}}", accurately populates with the contact’s correct first name from your data. You can return to this stage after you've added a custom field in the initial message step.
You can also select a sample contact during this step. This contact will be used to preview your initial message and to send yourself test/preview texts. Read our article on Sending Preview Texts for more information.
Note: Launching your campaign is only possible when all fields in your script are mapped.
Step 5: Suppressions (optional)
You can exclude specific individuals from receiving messages in your campaign by utilizing the suppressions feature. This can be done both before and after your campaign has launched. There are two ways to suppress contacts:
CSV Upload: Suppress contacts by uploading a CSV file.
Campaigns: Suppress contacts from other campaigns within the subaccount.
You then have the option to:
Suppress all overlaps
Suppress overlaps from particular campaigns
Apply filters to campaigns to remove contacts who have responded/not responded in a certain way
Step 6: Initial Message
Craft one or more initial messages and enable link shortening and tracking.
Character Count: View the total number of characters in your message and how many are left in your segment.
Add New Contact Fields: Ensure you correctly map your new fields to one of the columns in your contact upload using the Contact Mapping section. Failure to do so will prevent launching your campaign.
Upload Media File: To convert your message to MMS, upload a media file. The maximum file size is 500KB. Refer to our MMS & SMS Campaigns: Setup, Tips, and FAQs article for further information.
Liquid Template: Use a liquid template to dynamically generate content. Liquid is a template language that allows the insertion of variables, control structures (like if statements and loops), and other logic into templates. Read more about Liquid Templates here.
Add a Variant: Add multiple iterations of your initial script to a campaign to perform A/B tests. Learn more about Script Variants here.
Enable Shortlink by Script Variant: Choose from available shortlinks. You can customize this for each script variant, selecting different domains. The system will automatically locate the URL in your script. Learn more about shortlinks here.
Preview Message: View your message with autofilled contact fields from the sample contact imported earlier. Replace with test data for effective testing. If shortlinks are enabled, a clickable test link will be displayed. Read more about sending preview messages here.
Note: Initial Messages must clearly identify your organization as the message sender and include standard opt-out language such as "Reply Stop to Opt-Out" or "Stop = End". Read our article on Mandatory Opt-Out & Sender Identification Language, or Opt-Outs & Strike Lists for further information.
Step 7: Response Scripts
You can import existing Response Scripts, add campaign-specific Groups, or add campaign-specific Responses from this step. Learn more about Response Scripts here.
Step 8: Tags
Manually import tags from your Global Tags page into your campaign. This section may start blank, or include any tags that are embedding within your imported Response Scripts. Learn more about Tags here.
Step 9: Start Campaign
When you're ready to launch your campaign, select the Start Campaign button. Clicking this button will direct you to the Campaign Stats page, where you can then send your campaign. Your messages will not be sent automatically.
Note: The tool will alert you to any errors that require attention before proceeding.
Send Your Campaign
Send Options:
Send to a Portion of your List: Send messages to a specified portion of your contacts. You can customize the amount of texts to send in the pop-up window.
Send to Your Full List: Send to all contacts in your campaign.
Autosend Based on ROI: Compare script variants based on ActBlue donations with a partial send. Select Winning Conditions to determine the winning script variant. The tool will then send the remaining texts to the chosen variant. Refer to our ROI Send Feature article for further information. Note: This option is only available with an active ActBlue integration and multiple script variants.
Schedule Options:
Schedule a Portion of your List: Schedule the campaign to send messages to a portion of your contacts.
Schedule Your Full List: Schedule a send of all messages in your campaign.
Schedule Autosend Based on ROI: Schedule an autosend test based on ActBlue donations with a partial send. Note: This option is only available with an active ActBlue integration and multiple script variants.
Preview Text: Send test texts to yourself and/or others. You can either select one of your default numbers (added in Settings) or add new numbers here (comma-separated).
